Is your holiday rental website ready for AI bookings?
Guests increasingly ask an assistant before they ask you. Enter your website and we will show you what one can actually work out from it.
What we check
Fourteen things an AI assistant needs in order to answer a guest’s question about your property.
Can a bot read your page at all
Assistants fetch your page the way a browser would with JavaScript switched off. If there is nothing there, nothing else can be checked.
Your site responds
An assistant has to be able to load the page before anything else matters.
Content is there without JavaScript
Most AI crawlers do not run JavaScript. They see the HTML your server sends and nothing more.
AI crawlers are allowed in
A robots.txt rule can shut assistants out entirely, and it is very often there by accident.
Can a bot identify the property
Knowing this is a holiday rental, where it is, how many it sleeps and what it offers — in a form a machine can read rather than infer from pictures.
The property is identifiable
An assistant needs to be able to tell that this page is one specific place to stay.
Structured accommodation data
Structured data is how a machine reads your property as data rather than guessing from prose. It is the single highest-value item on this list.
Location, capacity and amenities
Without these an assistant cannot match your property to what someone actually asked for.
A canonical property URL
Tells a machine which address is the real one when the same page is reachable several ways.
Can a bot help someone book
Dates, prices and a way to get in touch. This is the part that turns being found into being booked.
Availability a machine can read
This is the one that answers "is it free 12-19 July?". Without it an assistant can describe your property but cannot help anyone book it.
Pricing is discoverable
Assistants are routinely asked what a stay costs. If the price is only in an image or a PDF, it cannot be answered.
A way to book or enquire
Once someone is interested, there has to be an obvious next step a machine can point them at.
Contact details a machine can read
A phone number inside an image is invisible to an assistant.
A calendar feed
An iCal feed lets other systems — and increasingly assistants — read your real availability directly.
Supporting signals
Smaller things that help, and are quick to fix.
A mobile viewport is declared
Most guests arrive on a phone. This tag is what tells the browser to lay the page out for one.
An llms.txt file
An emerging convention: a plain-text summary at /llms.txt telling assistants what your site is and where the important pages are. Not yet widely required, and cheap to add.
Why “without JavaScript” matters
Your website probably looks fine to you. But most AI crawlers do not run JavaScript — they read the HTML your server sends and nothing more. A calendar widget, a price that loads after the page, a booking form inside an iframe: all invisible. That is why a site can look complete to a person and be nearly empty to an assistant.
We check exactly what they see, so what we report is what they get.
Questions
- Is the check really free?
- Yes. You do not need an account and you do not need to be a Stayem customer. Running the check costs nothing; we ask for an email only if you want the full written report sent to you.
- What do you do with my website address?
- We fetch a small number of public pages from it, exactly as any search engine or AI crawler would, and store only the results of our checks. We never keep a copy of your pages. Checks that are never claimed are deleted after seven days.
- Your check says my page has no content, but it looks fine to me.
- That is the single most useful thing this tool tells you. We read the HTML your server sends, with JavaScript switched off, because that is what most AI crawlers do. If your site builds its content in the browser, a person sees a complete page and a crawler sees an empty one. Your site is not broken; it is just invisible to them.
- Do I have to use Stayem to fix any of this?
- No. The report explains each fix in terms that work on any website, whatever it is built with. Stayem happens to do several of them for you — publishing your real availability as structured data and as a calendar feed that stay in step with your bookings — but the advice stands on its own.
- Will you email me after the report?
- Only if you tick the optional box. Your report is sent whether or not you do, and every email we send carries an unsubscribe link.
